BANKSIA NUT LONG
A single longitudinal slice of Banksia Nut with a double suede background. This piece is sliced from the Australian Banksia Nut which is found in Western Australia and is named after the Botanist Sir Joseph Banks who sailed with Captain Cooke. The nuts must be picked from the tree when mature and this can take several years. The nuts are hard and solid, with seed pods running from the outside, towards the centre core . The seeds from inside the nut fall out and leave a unique pattern of depressions in the surface. The nuts themselves vary in size (anything from 4 to 9 inches in length).
