ILMINSTER AMMONITE
An English ammonite whose limestone colours combine effectively with black reed on a dual suede backdrop. The Ilminster area of Somerset is well known for the Jurassic Junction Bed which yields a wide range of ammonites which can simply be picked up off the fields. Locals crowd the fields when they are ploughed for the highly rich ammonite fauna. Strange to think that these wonderful specimens were deposited from the tropical seas that prevailed in the UK some 150 million years ago.
