It is hard to comprehend that this fossil dates back to 400 + million years ago and is one of the first recognizable animals. Even though they were among the earliest forms of life, this class of nautiloid is still considered one of the most intelligent forms of ocean life. The Orthoceras ranged in size from a few inch or so in length to over six feet! Orthoceras fossils are abundant in South East Morocco where they are very well preserved in black limestone.
